I'm Adam, the drummer for Rail City. We had received a message from someone at this site on our myspace.com account: www.myspace.com/railcity. I'm sure we would be interested (I personally am) in doing an interview through e-mail or by other means if possible. I will have to run it by the rest of the group though to be sure. You may contact us at JabCoOne@aol.com or RailCityBand on AIM. Thanks, hope to hear from you soon.

I would love the exposure to the world for feedback, critiques, and criticism/suggestions. Thanks for the message, The Rocker, I look forward to getting in touch with you. Hello Neena,
This is a good place to start with, getting more exposure to your music. Upon reading your message here I had a look into your site. I noticed you know about Garageband.com. I am borrowing the very own words of a fellow musician from Eastern Washington University here: "Good stuff there, but the ranking is too much oriented into production in the cost of integrity." So do not put all your trust in them when receiving reviews.
You wished to have criticism etc.
Well, I'll give you a brief review on 'Meeting Neena'.
Intro: There is no intro. Try working on this. Intro is not obligatory for every single song, but it sure helps as a good prologue in a book, leading into the creators world.
The keyboard is used to create background for vocals. I can hear bassdrum kicking on the back. It gives a lot of support for the song, gluing keyboards and singing together.
Your voice is pleasant to listen and your style is genuine.
The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is the keyboard sound. Perhaps you could try and do this song using several different sounds and then choose what you think fits best.
To me it sound like keyboards in a church, so if there is no link in lyrics into the chosen sound, then there is no way to justify using it.
All n' all it is clear you are a songwriter, and you have your own style. This is a good start already.
I noticed you named Bjork as one of your influences. Take care not to introduce her style into your work in too early phase.
Let's have a look at 'Honestly'
I like a lot of using the sequencer for the background. Singing is too low in the mix. It is also panned all the way to right. If there is no particular reason for this, I would suggest leaving it in the center and using gate-reverb or reversed gate to expand the singing to left and right, while adding some space into it.
This stuff sounds pretty much like experimental. Not bad at all, though I got to admit I am not biggest fun for this style. I've listened to Bjork and I can see where you are trying to get at. This song just needs more elements into it. Construct parts, and move from one to another, and then back to create that red-line from the beginning till the end.
Now the 'Unconditional love'
It seems these songs get better and better, the further I get in your list.
This one has a nice background, the tingling loop creates nice atmosphere while bass is kicking a solid rhythm pattern with drums.
I can hear some issues in harmonies here, again you are trying to catch something between atonal and tonal singing. Well, in time you will no undoubtedly handle this very demanding style, I can see marks of it here and there.
Again this song suffers from the lack of changing elements. I encourage you to follow this structure: Intro-first part-chorus-second part-bridge-chorus-final.
Try it. Once you can compose using all the above mentioned elements you will become free to use them as you like. Leaving some off, or adding something or whatever. Knowing a basic song structure will help a lot.
In case you know this already, and you have decided to keep into song structure demonstrated in your songs, then all I can say is good luck. You have to do very well to make them sell.
I do not know whether or not you have studied music, but I am assuming you have not very long experience in making music. Please accept my somewhat straight forward attitude in my reviews, I prefer honesty over politeness when it comes reviewing music. I have no need to get picking on someone.
Sum summarum: You are an intriguing songwriter, and I am interested to hear what you can do with the help from other musicians, letting you to concentrate on the song itself, not playing all the instruments by yourself.
You will get stronger by the day, and that's the best thing in this hobby.
Cheers,
Ari Jalokinos Viiala, Finland

Ari, I was wondering if it would be an idea worth considering to work out some type of area here to let new artist place a sample of their music to be reviewed and a critique be given by some of the artists that come through this site, just a thought.....

" to let new artist place a sample of their music to be reviewed and a critique be given by some of the artists that come through this site,"
I think this is really worth of some serious thinking. See if we could make it work from the basis 'you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours'.
We can take some ideas from garageband.com to have something to start with.
